I'LL BE BAAHCK!

"Terminator" franchise plans
videogame assault
LOS ANGELES (Reuters/Hollywood Reporter)
"The Terminator" will be back on video game consoles.

The Halcyon Co., which owns the rights to the "Terminator" movie franchise, is
forming its own gaming subsidiary and making a game adaptation of the
upcoming film "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins" its first release.

The game, which will be available on all formats, including next-generation
consoles, PC and mobile, is expected to hit the marketplace at the same time
as the film, which is slated for release in summer 2009. (Christian Bale is in
talks to star in the film, playing freedom-fighter John Connor.)

Peter Levin, the acting CEO of Halcyon Games, said the privately financed
parent company opted to form its own game division rather that outsource the
"Terminator" license in order "to control our own destiny."

Like a lot of blockbuster film franchises, "Terminator" has had its share of
licensed games, most of which have done well in the marketplace. In May,
Halcyon announced its acquisition of the franchise rights to "Terminator" from
movie producers Andrew Vajna and Mario Kassar.

Development of the "Terminator" game has been under way for several months.

"We don't want the game to be the stepchild to the film," said Halcyon co-CEO
Derek Anderson. "They're of equal importance, and we want both to be of the
same quality and be the same compelling experience."

"Terminator" will not be the only franchise in the Halcyon Games stable.
Halcyon created a splash this year when it secured first-look rights to the works
for famed science fiction writer Philip K. Dick. The Halcyon executives said they
are looking at bringing out titles based on the Dick books beginning in 2010.
Previous screen adaptations of Dick's work, including "Total Recall," "Minority
Report," "A Scanner Darkly" and "Blade Runner," have grossed more than $1
billion worldwide.

TROOPS TROOPS AND MORE TROOPS
This Real Action Hero defines new realism to our
onscreen stormies
BusyGamer Toy Showcase
by Crutchboy
I am such a big fan of the Star Wars action figures of the
80's, more so than some of the latter years, but after
running across this bad boy on starwars.com I couldn't
believe how real this 12" looks just by the photos.
Although it's going for a whopping $109.99, had I was
more skillfull at hiding from the fellas at toyota that
would come demand payment for my vehicle, or I could
be more creative with ramen noodles, I'd be stocking up
on these guys so I could re-create my own version of
the assault on the Tantive IV myself. YEAH! Heres what
starwars.com has to say about this troop of today.
It's not often that an item can sell itself successfully based solely on a
photograph. However, with Medicom's new 12" Real Action Heroes
Stormtrooper, there may now be an exception to that rule.

Imported exclusively to the U.S. by StarWarsShop, Medicom's new
Stormtrooper poseable figure looks so photo-realistic that we actually thought
these images were actors posed in suits. Medicom's artisans have so
masterfully captured the look and articulation of the costumed characters that
this trooper is easily the closest representation of the notorious Imperial
minions crafted to date.

Previous editions in the RAH series, which included Jedi Luke Skywalker and
Darth Vader, were quick sellouts at StarWarsShop (where both were import
exclusives as well). These are not often available to import, so make sure to
grab one of these incredible likenesses during this one-time offer.
So if you would like to buy me a few for xmas go right ahead, I will gladly tell you where
you can ship them! Get one here at

Speed Racer movie to hit theatres 2008
The Mach 5 above looks pretty dam speedy, like we could get chicks in this beast! - BG
www.speedracerthemovie.com
Slated for release on May 9, 2008, “Speed Racer” marks the Wachowski
brothers’ first writing/directing collaboration since “The Matrix” movies. Joel
Silver, who previously worked with the Wachowskis on “The Matrix” movies and
“V For Vendetta,” is producing the film under his Silver Pictures banner.

The film stars Emile Hirsch (“Alpha Dog”) as Speed, Christina Ricci (“Black
Snake Moan”) as Trixie, Matthew Fox (TV’s “Lost”) as Racer X, and Oscar
winner Susan Sarandon (“Dead Man Walking”) and John Goodman (“Evan
Almighty”) as Mom and Pops Racer. Rounding out the main cast are Australian
actor Kick Gurry (“Spartan”) as Sparky; Paulie Litt (TV’s “Hope & Faith”) as
Spritle; Roger Allam (“The Queen,” “V For Vendetta”) as Royalton; and Asian
music star Ji Hoon Jung (popularly known as Rain), making his major feature
film debut as a rival driver.

Based on the classic series created by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida, the live-
action “Speed Racer” will showcase the kind of revolutionary visual effects and
cutting-edge storytelling that have become the benchmarks of the Wachowski
brothers’ films.

“Speed Racer” is a Warner Bros. Pictures presentation, in association with Village Roadshow
Pictures, of a Silver Pictures Production.

HEY DOC, THIS Rx SAYS I HAVE
TO DO WHAT?
Physical therapists prescribe Wii time
By Lisa Baertlein
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Franklin Perry used to
spend hours performing video game feats with
his thumbs but lately he has been using the
Nintendo Wii, and the rest of his body, to regain
his strength after suffering a stroke.

The 51-year-old, who had a stroke about three
weeks ago, has been working hard to rebuild the
muscles in his immobilized right side at Ohio
State University Medical Center's Dodd Hall
Rehabilitation Hospital in Columbus.
"I'm just now getting some movement back," said Perry, who before entering
the center logged his game time on a Sony (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research)
PlayStation 2 home console or in shopping mall arcades.

Robbie Winget, an occupational therapist who oversees use of the Wii at Dodd
Hall, said news that a rehab hospital in Alberta, Canada, was using the popular
new video game system sparked the idea.

Winget played with the Wii at a friend's house and was convinced that it could
help patients build balance, coordination, endurance and upper and lower body
strength.

"I thought it was cool that you used your body to control the movement," said
Winget, who added that Nintendo (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research) has not
provided the hospital with the video game console.

The hospital has been using the Wii for about four months to help people
recovering from strokes and spinal cord or traumatic brain injuries, according
to Winget.

Patients also use the Web-connected console to find information on its news
or weather channels to improve brain function.

All the patients at Dodd Hall usually undergo a total of three hours of daily
therapy and work with the video game system for about 30 minutes per day two
to three times per week.

Winget said he didn't think other home video game consoles could match the
Wii's appeal with older patients.

"The idea of sitting there fiddling a couple of buttons on a video game
(controller) is not motivating or interesting at all," said Winget.

Perry, who favors his left hand when playing games, said his Wii therapy
includes holding the "Wiimote" controller in his right hand while he bowls for
strikes or punches and jabs an on-screen opponent.

His therapists said he is pushing hard on all of his exercises, but Perry said
the video games are helping him go to the next level.

"This is more fun. It makes it more exciting. It gets me to work harder," said
Perry, who has a fierce video game rivalry with his teenage nephew.

But Winget said the Wii will not replace conventional therapy. "It's one more way
to meet specific goals associated with therapy," he explained.

Perry said he has two goals -- getting home by Christmas and getting a Wii,
supplies of which are tight for the second holiday season in a row.

"I wish I could find one," said Perry. "Anybody that's over who wants to play can
play. If not, I'll be on that thing all by myself."

Besides random
killing, stealing,
crashing, pimpin
and car jacking...

Five cool things about
Grand Theft Auto IV
by YVG Staff
1. Graphics
The coolest feature so far is the upgraded RAGE Graphics Engine (also used
to power Table Tennis), which finally replaces Renderware under the GTA
hood. RAGE now features a heavily customized version of Natural Motion's
"Euphoria" physics engine, which got major attention last year when LucasArts
demo'ed it as part of the Indiana Jones and Star Wars games. Expect even
more excitement as you see how the teaming of RAGE and Euphoria affects
movement, gunplay, climbing, and driving. Rockstar also points out that
everything you see in the GTA IV trailers is capture in-game -- there are no
underhanded renders here.

2. Sound
While the Natural Motion has a visible effect on the physical aspects of action
and gunplay, even more noticeable is the game's audio system. Positional
audio makes for the sort of intense, fun gun battles we've always wanted in
GTA. The streets sound -- and feel -- real.
3. Tunes
Part and parcel of the audio system, of course, is Rockstar's trend-setting
ability to craft a killer soundtrack. The new trailer is scored with "Arm In Arm
(Shy Child Remix)" by New York City-based band The Boggs. The idea was to
show a real street-level view of Rockstar's version of the city with a band that
belongs there. To that effect, you'll be seeing even more licensed music from
all genres and time periods, since the soundtrack team is no longer confined
to a specific decade.

4. Time
While Rockstar is reluctant to discuss the details, time is a big factor in GTA IV.
The new trailer indicates in subtle ways how the passage of time might affect
the game, and there are clues that indicate some missions, or mission
elements, might be time-specific. And if that's the case, then can multiple
outcomes and branching storylines be far behind? Don't expect a mission
flowchart that looks like a New York City subway map, but Rockstar could
surprise us.

5. The Details
The vastly upgraded graphics don't just make for a shinier front end. Rockstar
has worked to make GTA IV follow through, from the biggest details to the
smallest. You can see it in the way Niko leans around a corner, or how he
sways while hanging (in real-time, procedural motion) from the skid of a
helicopter. It's the glance into a car and the ways in which the streets of Liberty
City are teeming with the life we've been waiting to see from the series.
Rockstar claims the new graphics, sound, and details make the game more
beautiful, not more disturbing, and we're almost ready to believe them.
